Sequoia National Park

These photos were taken at Sequoia National Park over one day in November, 2009. The park is the home of large groves of giant sequoiya, or redwood, trees. These are different from the coast redwoods - not quite as tall but bigger in girth. Some are thousands of years old (think about that!). They are very resistant to fire, and many have been through multiple fires, as evidenced by the burn marks.

001-jfid_20091107_9995_6_8 - This, and several of the following images, are HDR. There is huge dynamic range in the redwood forests, between light and dark, and the only way to capture it is to bracket several images and assemble them into an HDR image. I used photomatix for these.
